The short version: we collect almost nothing. We don't know who you are. We don't sell data. We don't run ads.
What data we collect
Anonymous readers: Nothing. We serve pre-built static HTML pages. No account, no login, no tracking. We cannot identify you.
Client-side preferences (localStorage): Your theme choice
(light / dark) and any pinned story are stored in your browser's
localStorage. This data never leaves your device and we cannot
read it.
Future email subscribers (not yet live): When the optional daily digest launches, we will collect your email address only, via double opt-in. It will be used only to send the digest. We will never sell or share it. You can unsubscribe and have it deleted at any time.
Cookies
We set no first-party tracking cookies. Cloudflare (our CDN) may set a
short-lived session cookie (__cf_bm) strictly for bot-management
purposes — it is functional, not tracking, and expires within 30 minutes.
No third-party advertising or analytics cookies are present on this site.
Server logs
Our CDN (Cloudflare) records standard HTTP access logs: IP address, request path, timestamp, and HTTP status code. These logs are retained for up to 30 days and used exclusively for abuse detection and capacity planning. We do not use them to profile individual visitors. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Third parties
- Cloudflare — CDN and DDoS protection. Processes HTTP requests on our behalf. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Resend (future, email only) — transactional email for the daily digest, when that feature ships. Not active in v1.
- No analytics services. No Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Plausible, no Fathom. We don't know how many people read any given debate — only Cloudflare's aggregate CDN stats, which are anonymous.
- No advertising networks. We run no ads.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 (United States, COPPA) or under 16 (European Union, GDPR). We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has submitted personal data, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
Your rights (GDPR / LGPD)
If you are in the European Economic Area or Brazil and have provided us personal data (e.g., an email address for the future digest), you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of that data. Email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
Because anonymous readers provide no personal data, there is typically nothing to access or delete for casual visitors.
Jurisdiction
The Opinion Machine is operated by an individual in Brazil and hosted via Cloudflare infrastructure primarily in the United States. Visitors access the site from everywhere. Brazilian data-protection law (LGPD) and, where applicable, the GDPR govern our handling of personal data.
Changes to this policy
We will update the "Last updated" date above when we make material changes. Continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
